SAKURA • empire vest
This piece is made of 100% Maurice Brassard cotton in a soft dusty peach, and warm chestnut. She’s machine washable and drapes beautifully. Light and breezy, perfect for the warming weather. My Empire design includes a fibonacci focused warp, clasped weft shoulder, and dramatic side slits, making it feel like a true statement piece.
I started weaving this piece over a bout of nostalgia. I first moved to Japan in April 2016. At the tail end of cherry blossom/sakura season, enjoying the sights and flavors of a local festival in Niigata, and then following the blossoms back to Tokyo. It’s one of Japan’s most sacred traditions and was such a pleasure to be invited to enjoy.
Over 16 hours went into weaving this beauty, and another few sewing it together, all entirely by hand. She’s asymmetrical by design and fits a S-M best. Measures 20"x42", and hits around the knee on me, 5'11" for reference.
